diy polka dot manicure

Jun 27, 2013

1) You'll need a base coat, top coat (for the polka dots) and a pencil. I also like to have Q-tips & polish remover handy... perfect for quick touch ups.
2) Apply your base coat.
 3) Now dab your pencil in the polish and use a gentle hand to apply your polka dots.
4) And voila, all done!

Well, I guess my polka dots aren't exactly perfect, but still, I was excited to give this fun polka dot manicure a try. I found it via Pinterest and the original content is from Syl and Sam. Next time, I'd love to do a mint + white or use a grey base coat and add neon yellow polka dots. Sky's the limit, really. If you guys try this, be sure to let me know... I'd love to see your results!

  1. What a cute - and for once, simple looking! - manicure. Who needs perfect polkadots? Part of the fun is just trying something new, and not having to be a trained aesthetician to do it successfully :) I'm definitely bookmarking this for a day when I'm feeling adventurous!

  4. Such a cute tutorial! I never thought to use a pencil! I usually use a toothpick and it never works out quite right.

  5. So cute! I tried this last year with a clear base and different coloured polka dots. I used the brush though and it was super hard! The pencil is a fantastic idea : )

  6. I was just reading about this a few days ago and it suggested using the tip of a bobby pin. I tried this on my toes and it worked great!

  11. Ooh this is cool! I'd never have thought to use a pencil. I did a polkadot mani once, using the back of a round toothpick from a Japanese grocery store. Funny enough I did grey with neon yellow and it turned out really nice. Your colour combo is adorable, I want to try something like that next. I wonder if a pencil is easier to control than a toothpick! :)

  13. This is a great tutorial! My favorite dotting tool has got to be mechanical pencils though - way more precise than a regular pencil for me.. xx
