Catching Up + Photos From Our Week

Jul 9, 2014

What a week! If you follow me on instagram then you know we had to put down our beloved cat, Pumpkin. Poor guy, his last 24 hours were so painful, scary and watching him suffer was one of the worst things imaginable. I love my animals and care for them with a big & wide open heart. So honestly, this devastated me! On Friday night, at the age of 19, my love bug had one of his paws go limp from a blood clot. Our vet recommended a blood thinner but sadly the blood clot wouldn't budge and we had to put him down. The tears have not stopped flowing. I just hope there's a cat heaven and he has found his peace. This is the second pet I've lost as an adult and it does not get easier. My heart aches for the fur balls of this world!

This week, we've slowed down our schedule. I haven't slept in a few days, so yes, rest it is! Yesterday we took our dog for a trail walk and it was incredibly therapeutic. Listening to the gentle rustle of the leaves, seeing the forest all sun dappled and witnessing the splendor of our ocean is all this girl needs to feel a state of calm & thankfulness. There is beauty in weathering the storms of life, we experience a deepening of our soul and grow a more gentle spirit!

And a photo of our pumpkin! We'll forever miss you sweetheart! ♥ Also, say hello to my pj's! ;)

28 sweet notes:

  1. Oh babe, I feel so bad for you guys. Having to put a pet down is just so heartbreaking. I remember when we had to put my dog down - the dog we'd had since I was two - the week before my fourteenth birthday. I remember that big sigh when he let go of his life. He was such an ingrained member of our family that my parents took me out of school so I could be with him when he died. Driving back from the animal clinic, my big, sturdy dad had to stop the car because he was crying so hard. But all the tears are good, and cathartic, and what they really mean is that we loved our animals very much - enough to do what was best for them, in the end. Thinking of you!!

  12. I feel so sorry about Pumpkin and I hope he's in kitty-heaven climbing up trees and chasing mice! I know how hard it is to lose a pet, but you have to remember that you provided him a great life and he didn't have to live on the streets like many other cats do. Stay strong!

  16. I am so sorry to hear about your cat... I really cannot imagine what it feels like to lose a pet and I fear the day that I will inevitably have to let my dog go. It is just so unfair and awful to think about. I am glad that you have other furry friends to help you through this and I know your dear Pumpkin will live in your heart forever. Hugs to you!

  17. Ohh no, I'm so sorry about Pumpkin. We put down our dog Prince last Christmas, and I still feel like my room is empty when I step into it and he's no longer curled up beside me...pets really do become a part of our family.
Anyway, sending much hugs and comfort your way. Though it does sound like you're seeing the positives that are still in life. <3

The loss of a pet is the loss of a much loved family member. We lost our beagle Lois in April. Her and our orange cat Clark were the best of buddies. Where ever Lois went, Clark would follow and they would often curl up together. Time is the healer. We see some of Lois's traits in Clark now which makes us remember her always and smile...
