Closet Essentials: The Denim Vest

Over the weekend, I whittled my closet down to my most beloved pieces. Eighteen, to be exact. I'm not sure what came over me... but for this upcoming season, I'm so craving simplicity! I paired down my choices to include great basics and neutrals like: cardigans, camisoles, midi skirts, maxi dresses and great fitting denim. I must admit, I have a deep love for outfits that are easy and above all unfussy. Now that my closet is paired down, it's my hope to start shopping a little less and incorporate more strategy. I'll be sure to share my progress here!

One of my "must have" items is the denim vest. I had a ton of fun coming up with different outfit variations for this post and can't wait to wear these looks for summer. They're so perfectly me! Lastly, I plan to be back with my personal style posts soon. But honestly, it's kind of nice to take a break. Plus, you haven't missed much. I spent most of the weekend in t-shirts and boyfriend jeans, so yeah! ;)

look 2: vest, tee (My Theresa), skinnies, tote, sandals
look 3: vest, tee (My Theresa), midi skirt (Zara), sandals

20 sweet notes:

  1. You got down to only 18 pieces?! I am impressed, girl! Also, Madewell has been killing it lately. My obsession is only getting stronger!

I really, really need to do this with my closet - dressing strategically around some core pieces seems like such a smart plan.

  4. Ah, the denim vest! I just did a remix post on how many times I've worn mine - definitely a staple in my wardrobe as well!
Isn't is so liberating to clean out the 'clutter' in our closets? I'm looking forward to following along this particular journey - especially because I'll be needing to do a major paring down myself, as far as my wardrobe is concerned! I'll be stealing all your tips and tricks :)

  5. its funny but boyf jeans and a tee is my favourite kind of outfit yet for myself i always deem it as un-blog worthy, and yet its when i am most myself. My wardrobe has gotten kinda crowded of late, what i am noticing is i am opting for more black and neutral pieces when i shop, which feels so strange for me. i seem to be craving simplicity in that sense. i wish i had the guts to whittle down to 18 pieces... oh gosh, i'm panicking at the thought of it haha. I know my husband would love me for it though lol! can't wait to see how you style your new de-cluttered closet!XXXX

  6. I did a similar closet cleaning at the beginning of spring—not as drastic as limiting myself to 18 pieces, but still pretty dramatic—and getting dressed is so much easier because of it. No more feeling overwhelmed and guilty because of the pieces I DON"T wear!

I haven't jumped on the denim vest bandwagon, but you do a great job here of illustrating why it's your closet basic!

  7. I give you some serious props for that closet clean out, you go girl! Can't wait to see what you come up with! Also loving this denim vest inspiration - I recently added one to my closet and love these suggestions!

  8. Eighteen pieces?! Wow, dear Veronika...that is one MAJOR purge!! It's time for me to make a little room in my closet, too; but I don't think I can manage anything quite so hardcore!! ;) And now that I see your inspiration here - and because I finally "caved" and invested in a denim jacket! - I think I need to add a vest to my list of must-haves, too!! 9. You wittled your wardrobe down to eighteen pieces?! My dear V, that is true discipline - I admire you (although I so know I could never emulate you, at least not in this way!) But it's true that simplicity is a wonderful thing and with the right pieces in your wardrobe, you don't need much. I love my denim jacket - not quite a vest but very similar for styling purposes and I'll definitely be taking some inspiration from these outfits! Happy Monday, lovely :)

  11. My word, only 18 pieces???
You go girl. I need to do that, but I have the toughest time letting things go. I'll clutch at it and think "But what if I need it...?"
Haha, dang, I need to weed out my closet.
Anyway, a denim vest is definitely a good staple to have, and I love how you plan on wearing yours! That first look with the maxi dress is so cute <3

  12. Ha yes, 18 pieces!! I'm not sure if that was a genius move, or a temporary loss of sanity! ;) But I hate clutter and sometimes starting fresh is the best feeling. Out with the old, in with new!! And yes, denim vest, I'll be rocking mine all summer long!! <3

  13. Yes, to adding a denim vest to your life. I think it's the perfect transition piece... I love wearing my denim jacket but the vest is great for those warmer days when you still want to layer!! xo

  14. Aw, thanks lovey!! I must seem crazy for clearing out my closet so drastically but I'm kind of obsessed with simplicity in my life. Especially as of late... the less I have the freer I feel! <3 And yes, there's something to be said for choosing blacks & neutral pieces, right?! So easy to mix & match or pair with a bold accessory. Happiest start of the week to you!! xoxo

  15. Carley yes, I LOVED your remix post featuring your vest. It's such an easy & effortless piece to wear + it looks damn cute. And oh my gosh, so liberating cleaning out the closet... I think you quickly learn what you love fashion wise when faced with the "de-clutter challenge"! Happiest Tuesday to you!!! xo

  18. Haha, oh I laughed reading that you pared your closet down to just essentials, because I look at my closet and it's so, so opposite! I have so many crazy patterns and upwards of 50 dresses alone (not to mention about the same amount of skirts!) I may need to pare down a bit, although I doubt I'll ever pare down as much as you did!

I LOVE your simple style, though. It inspires me to whittle down some days and just enjoy something clean and streamlined.
That middle one is my favorite. So cute!

  19. Whoa, 18 pieces! Does that include shoes, too? I hope you didn't get rid of your gorgeous grey Madewell cardigan?! It'd be really cool if you did a post of all the stuff you do have left, as a sort of new starting point... Also, I spy a transport tote on those style boards, are you planning on getting one? ;)

  20. Wow, 18 pieces! Did you get rid of everything else or just store it? I'm inspired x
