It's early and my big mug of coffee is doing nothing to jump start my brain. So, we're keeping it nice and short today. Plus, I was up most of the night with the worst back pain. Onward, two exciting things! One, this date night. Two, I finally dusted off my DSLR and took photos. I've been relying on my iphone a little too much lately and taking these photos reminded me how much I love adventuring + capturing everyday moments. Let's do this all summer long I say! Oh if only I could, the dreamer in me would love to travel for a year, take pictures and spend my days writing it all down. Life, I'm forever your biggest fan! Here & there, Martin and I have talked about the possibility of moving to New York for a year. He's suggested doing a teachers exchange, and you know what? As terrifying as it seems... maybe we should!

On topic, off topic, we were witness to a terrible car accident the other day which has honestly left me very shaken. We were first on scene and I felt like my heart was going to rip in two for everyone involved. I hardly slept that night... those events have a way of replaying in your head. I'm really not keeping this short, am I?! Coffee kicking in, check! Anyway ever since the accident I've been thinking about the fact that life has no guarantees. We can try and clutch to the things that define us: marriage, monetary stability, our talents, careers, etc. But none of us are immune from the unexpected. And so, it got me thinking that courage, authenticity and living a life that's meaningful matters a whole lot. Seize the day, seize your personal truth! xo

22 sweet notes:

  3. So sorry to hear about the accident! That must have been horrible to see. I'm glad you came out of that experience with a positive outlook though! Sometimes it takes those truly terrible moments in life to catch your attention and cause you to want to live life more fully! I'd say, if you have the opportunity to live in New York for a year, I would jump at that chance!! What an amazing experience that would be! My husband and I are dying to move there, and our dream/goal is to make that happen... hopefully in the next few years. :)

  5. What a nice little date night. So simple and lovely! Beautiful photos too!

Wow, that definitely sounds horrible, but it is good you recognize what you want out of life. When I was in Tokyo last month, we got to a train platform right after someone had jumped in front of it. It was awful and I was so shook up about it. I wasn't quite right for days after that. Even though this person chose to end things, it is still a reminder of how things can change in an instant.

  6. Glad you got the DSLR back on again! Your photos are gorgeous, but even with the iPhone actually!
I'm having problems with my back too, I've actually been stuck in bed for a week and now slowly recovering for the rest of this week...but when the painkillers are kicking enough to give me some rest, i use this impromptu time out of work to get a lot done on my new project...That i can wait to tell you all about!! You were one of my inspiration to jump into this exciting adventure and you'll be one of the first to here about in the coming weeks! I can't wait! On a much less fun note, i've also witnessed a terrible car accident a few years ago in India and it definitely gives a lot to think and relativize about...life is short and it can end almost anytime so enjoy every day and seize every moment of happiness while you can!!
    Much love pretty lady!

  8. What lovely snapshots, V! So glad to hear you've brought your DSLR back out again - as much for as iPhone photography is, it will never compare to what a real camera can do. It sounds like you and Martin have had a lot to think about lately, with the possibility of a year in New York and the car accident keeping things in perspective! Hope you're both doing well and enjoying this gorgeous Wednesday :)

  9. I love these photos! You guys live in such a beautiful place. I swear I must drive Shane crazy with the amount of time I spend looking at new places to travel too. I love that idea of a teacher exchange - I'd totally do it (if I were a teacher haha).
Sorry to hear about the accident. It must have been horrible to witness it happening. I'd be terrible at reacting - I literally freeze and would have no idea what to do, so good on you for helping out! Hope you're ok now though!
Enjoy the rest of your week!

  11. Beautiful shots! I witnessed a horrific motorcycle accident years ago that shook me for months. And a few years after that, my ex was in a motorcycle accident that changed him forever. You're absolutely right that we have no guarantees and that we need to treasure what we have. xo

  12. Thats so true life is not guaranteed. We can't let fear hold us back from living. A year in NY sounds wonderful. I also dream of traveling and taking pictures. Photos can capture such great moments.

  13. Oh boy, dear Veronika...you are so very right about the "unexpected!!" My own situation is a perfect example; first the broken foot (I just tripped, for goodness sake!) and now this possibly life-long DVT condition!! It's easy living our lives as if everything (love, good health, etc.) will forever remain a sure thing...and truthfully, so we should; nobody wants to exist under the shadow of "what if's." But sometimes it takes something sad/horrible/painful to remind us that life is short, and we need to squeeze every last drop out of it!! P.S. I hope you sleep well tonight. P.P.S. If you move to New York, can I come visit?! ;)

  14. Seeing/hearing about accidents always give me a reminder of the lack of security our lives have. I guess that's a good reminder once in a while though!
I wish I could travel and take pictures all day too. I just don't know how to fund such an endeavor!

  17. These photos are so lovely Veronika and a very good peek at how your day went. Pizza at the pier...such a nice ring to it haha.
Ah man, that sounds scary...I can't imagine what that would be like to witness it. I always drive by after it's happened and most of it's been cleaned up, but you make a good point. Seize today and don't expect every day to be handed to you like it's your right!

  18. I love your blog and your photos! I'm guilty, too, of relying on my iPhone a little too much to capture all of life's images - but it's just so convenient! I completely agree with you that certain things are out of our control. I try my best to just live in the moment, stand in my truth, and do the best I can each day!

  20. That is so frightening! I have never witnessed and accident, so, I can only imagine how you felt. I think sometimes we can take life for granted and just go about our day without thinking much about it. I totally agree with you, we should always make the most of what we have and continue to seize our personal truth. After reading your post i went on a quest to find similar articles and i stumbled on this song. It really made me feel calm and it reminded me to just pause and think about how beautiful life really is.
