Meet Sunshine!
Jul 18, 2014
Hello, Friday! Thought you'd never come. It's been a hell of a long week. My carpel tunnel has been acting up like crazy... I'm supposed to avoid being on the computer as much as possible right now. I'm praying my wrist starts behaving as I have a heavy plate of design projects, engagement photos + photographing a wedding later this month. Also, if you don't see me commenting on your blogs as often, you'll know why, but I'm still dedicatedly reading! ♥
As for this little bundle of fur & love? Yay, meet Sunshine! Our newest fur fam member. We rescued her from our local shelter and she's been keeping us mighty busy. I'll be honest, we were a little overwhelmed at first. We spent most of last week at the vets as she's had a few health issues. And then, introducing her to Scout (our dog) was a little more work than expected. Let's just say there was no shortage of growling & hissing. But, we're finally making some great strides and our two fur bugs are slowly becoming friends. Do any of you have a cat & dog? How did you make the introduction?! Would love to hear your tips... xo

She is gorgeous! I love her green eyes. :) I hope your two fur babes are friends soon! I have three (female) cats and it was quite interesting introducing them. They're still not "friends" but they tolerate each other. Someday I hope they cuddle together, haha!

She is so cute, I love cats. I usually let it happen naturally sometimes they get along sometimes they don't.
ReplyDeleteMy cat was a year and a half when we introduced our three month old puppy! Our pup was confined to the kitchen for the first few months to help with house breaking and other training, but Tommy our cat always had full run of the house. That way, he always knew where to find her and he was never surprised by her being in another part of the house. He was able to control all of their interactions. Worked like a charm!
ReplyDeleteI my word, you have a gorgeous cat! Unfortunately, my dog will never let me bring a cat into the house, so I can only enjoy other peoples.
ReplyDeleteThose eyes are absolutely divine! Congratulations on the new furry addition to your family - she's beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the adjustments - I'm sure your fur babies will warm up to one another in no time!
Have a beautiful day, Veronicka, and I hope your wrist is on the mend!

Oh my goodness, what a sweetheart! But poor Scout, I'm sure it's been an adjustment having a kitten around after living with sweet old laid back Pumpkin for all these years. I'm sure your two fur babes will be the best of friends soon enough. I can't wait to meet Sunshine - and to see Scout chase her around your place the next time I'm over!

OHHHHHH Veronika!!!!!! She's so adorable!!! My gosh those eyes!! Congratulations! Glad that they're starting to get along with Scout, it's going to be such a cute team! Many many many kisses to you lovely and to all your sweet family! P.S: I hope you wrist is going to give you some rest sweetie, i hope it's not too much painful...
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, her EYES! She's such a pretty little thing! <3 I miss having a cat, so terribly. We always had to corral one of our dogs from playing with the cat, because the cat was really tolerant but also afraid, and the dog was very high-energy and always wanted to play. So he'd overwhelm her, and she'd wedge herself into a corner, poor thing! I hope your fur babies become fast friends quickly!
ReplyDeleteI have two cats and one dog, and I had the cats first, so they were kind of territorial at first, specially the female cat, the male was curious about the new intruder. 4 years later they even share the same bed (the calico is my male cat).
ReplyDeleteIt's so much fun see how they adapt and even adopt each others peculiarities.
She's the cutest little girl btw
Just look at those gorgeous green eyes!! Congratulations on the new addition to the family, dearest Veronika...she couldn't have found a better home!! We've been very lucky whenever we've introduced a new ferret to our clan; they almost always seem to fit right in. But it sounds like you're on the right track with Scout and Sunshine...I'm positive they'll be besties in no time!! P.S. Make sure you get some "wrist rest" time this weekend; health comes first, right?! XO

When we got kitty Clark, Lois the beagle was a few years old. We kept a close eye on them, making sure kitty did not get to playful and irritate her older new friend. Soon Lois would lay patiently while Clark gave her face a good wash...was so sweet. In no time they were the best of friends, sleeping and eating together. Your new addition is purrfect and all furry buddies will adapt in no time! Looks like playful times ahead!
ReplyDeleteOh Veronika, little res sunshine is adorable! you're making me want my own furry child. It makes me so happy to know that she was a rescue, people often believe that rescue animals are damaged and thus become discouraged to adopt. Have you tried playing with both at the same time? Rewarding them with treats while they are civil around each other? Maybe sitting on the couch while you and your hubby hold them and carefully introduce them? The reward system works well with cats and dogs because their little hearts love treats!
ReplyDeleteSo adorable! I just moved so we are waiting to be a little more settled before we adopt but I am counting down the days. It might be a cool post idea to hear about your experience adopting. I've never done it before and would love to know how you went about it. Just an idea ☺ Congrats on your new family member and I hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteShe looks gorgeous. I love love love her eyes!

Oh isn't she beautiful! So glad you rescued her, she is one lucky cat! Over the years I have had to introduce cats to dogs, dogs to dogs, and cats to cats! haha I find that the first sniffs need to be done with the newbie in a crate (maybe even with the door against the wall at first) after a little while I would switch them if possible. Let the newbie explore while the other gets used to scent in the crate. Once all the dust has settled I ease them into actually being free with each other and if someone is getting uptight put them back in the crate for a timeout and to gather their thoughts! Sometimes I just find (especially cats with cats) they just dont ever come to like each other but I've never had anyone who couldn't live with each other. I am assuming Sunshine a bit more hesitant than Scout so I am sure once she comes round harmonious life will resume!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you for sharing that photo of your two love bugs. So cute + wonderful to hear they've become friends... hopefully that's the direction we're heading in too!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, but seriously, we've been so overwhelmed at times. The first week was non-stop baby sitting with those two. We couldn't leave the house at all... it was darn stressful. We're making headway this week though. Oh pet life! ;) xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Lindsey!! And exciting you're looking into adopting as well!! <3 I've always adopted my cats and have really lucked out with amazing pets. The only downside can be the potential health problems. Sunshine had parasites, worms and ear-mites. But we were happy to nurse her back to health!! It's a great feeling to help these little fur balls out!! xoxo
ReplyDeletePS Love the idea of doing a post too!
Happy to meet Sunshine! Gorgeous green eyes you Mrs :) Hope you are already feeling better and that you are having fun with all the projects ahead.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks Kimi. We're starting to make some great head way this week with Scout & Sunshine. They seem to be doing better & better! Hope your week is fantastic! xo
ReplyDeleteCarley, thank you!! Slowly but surely we're making some head way this week. They've really started to tolerate each other! Yay!! And she's such a beauty, right?! Plus, she has the sweetest & most playful personality! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful girl, Scout is! Love her green eyes. Those photos of her are gorgeous. Jason and I have been thinking about adopting a new cat into our lives, or waiting for one to simply cross our path.
ReplyDeleteHope your CT calms down and you are able to get the work done that you want to do. Just remember to listen to your body and give yourself time to relax and heal.
